17-04-09 Time for something interesting?

Find the moment of inertia of a cube of side a along its diagonal.
-when spring comes, it melts the snow one flake at a time…

There are two things you should never try to prove ...... the impossible and the obvious ;)

Re: 17-04-09 Time for something interesting?

yes celestine.. This one is a super toughie.

It just came to my mind when I was sitting and I gave it..

But I think we can manage it by taking cross sections perpendicular to the diagonal?

can we?

Re: 17-04-09 Time for something interesting?

no dont think its possible that way as distance would vary for the parts of cross section

Re: 17-04-09 Time for something interesting?

yup that is true.. but I am banking on being able to find the MI of each of the cross sectional planes!

Re: 17-04-09 Time for something interesting?

yes this is tough ...

I learnt some more on moment of inertia and came to know about tensors  ...

then actually it becomes very straightforward ..

we get MOI = Ma[p]2[/p]/6  the same !!
All play and no work makes Rohan a full boy !.
