Easy one

How many litres of SO2 has to be passed through HClO3 to reduce 16.9 g of it to HCl..

[hide]Ans 13.44[/hide]

Re: Easy one

thse are the reactions......try to get the ans now...

8HClO3 → 4HClO4 + 2H2O + 2Cl2 + 3 O2

H2O +SO2 →H2SO3
4 H2SO3 +2Cl2 →4H2SO4 +Cl2
Cl2 +H2O→HCl+HClO

Re: Easy one

@UTTARA...no it's not necessary for u to remember these equations..

Simply do what the question is asking..

HClO[ss]3[/ss] + SO[ss]2[/ss] → HCl + H[ss]2[/ss]SO[ss]4[/ss] ...

now balance the equation..add water to one side..

3H[ss]2[/ss]O + HClO[ss]3[/ss] + 3SO[ss]2[/ss] → HCl + 3H[ss]2[/ss]SO[ss]4[/ss] ...

Moles of HClO[ss]3[/ss] given = 0.2
Moles of SO[ss]2[/ss] required = 0.6

In the question it shud be given that SO[ss]2[/ss] is at STP..then only the answer will be 13.44 Litres

I hope this one is an easy solution

Re: Easy one

i know a simpler process...

the process is 1 gram equivalent of substance A reacts with 1 gram equivalent of substance B to give 1 gram equivalent of substance C and 1 gram equivalent of substance D..

this may kill the question most easily!![3][3]

Re: Easy one

@Aditya ..
wat abt the temperature and pressure conditions given in the question? If the SO[ss]2[/ss] gas is produced at STP then only the answer will be 13.44 Litres..
